I-40 meets I-35 here

Owner-Operator CDL-A OTR Jobs in Oklahoma

Here is the short version. Oklahoma City is where I-40 and I-35 cross, which means Texas, Kansas, Arkansas and the Southwest are each one interstate away. Tulsa adds aerospace and manufacturing freight plus a river port at Catoosa. The oil patch keeps tankers and flatbeds busy, and farm country fills the rest. For a driver who wants to leave home and head any direction, Oklahoma works.

How our owner-operator program works

01

Rental trucks only

Equipment is rental and stays rental. MB Global does not offer lease-purchase, so no part of what you pay goes toward buying a truck. You run it, and you owe nothing toward buying it.

02

Contractor status

You are an independent contractor, not on the MB Global payroll. Settlements for your loads are how you get paid, and your expenses are yours to manage. You keep the freedom that comes with running your own operation.

03

OTR, all of it

No local or regional work here. Plan on 2 to 3 weeks out on the road and a few days back in Oklahoma. Miles, pay and home time are not promised, because freight changes.

Freight corridors OTR drivers run from Oklahoma

Oklahoma City is the crossroads: I-40 and I-35 meet there, linking Texas to the south, Kansas to the north, Arkansas to the east and the Southwest beyond Amarillo. Tulsa brings aerospace and manufacturing plants, plus the Tulsa Port of Catoosa on the Arkansas River system, which moves barge freight onto trucks. Oil and gas work across the state creates steady demand for tanker and flatbed drivers. The state projects about 6 percent job growth for heavy truck drivers from 2024 to 2034, so the freight base is holding up.

I-40 runs the width of the state, from Fort Smith on the Arkansas line through Oklahoma City to Amarillo. I-35 comes down from Kansas, passes through Oklahoma City and Ardmore, and drops into Dallas. I-44 ties Lawton, Oklahoma City, Tulsa and Joplin together, with long turnpike stretches along the way. Between the three, you can reach four neighboring states on a single road.

Oklahoma turnpikes, ice and spring storms

OKTraffic shows conditions statewide. Oklahoma turnpikes use cashless tolling with PikePass, so set that up before you rely on I-44 or the other turnpike routes. Ice storms in winter and severe spring weather are common. Check the forecast and OKTraffic before every departure.

Oklahoma truck driver jobs: what the data shows

27,840

Truck drivers employed

$54,410

Median annual wage

3,380

Openings a year

BLS data for May 2025 puts the median wage for heavy and tractor-trailer drivers in Oklahoma at $54,410 a year, below the $58,640 national median, across about 27,840 drivers in the state. On the demand side, Oklahoma projects 6 percent change in these jobs from 2024 to 2034 and about 3,380 openings each year. These figures cover wage and salary drivers, not owner-operator earnings. For an independent contractor, what you keep comes down to your loads and your costs, so treat the numbers as background on the market.

Orientation, travel and lodging

Orientation

Two parts: remote from home, then in person at our terminal.

Lodging

MB Global covers lodging in full during the in-person portion.

Travel

Booked and paid up front by MB Global, then charged back at $50 per week on your settlements.

The remote portion of orientation you can knock out from home in Oklahoma. The in-person portion is at our terminal. MB Global arranges the travel, whether that is a flight from Oklahoma City or Tulsa or a drive, and pays for it up front. You repay it at $50 per week through settlements. Ask the recruiter how many weeks and how it is listed. Lodging is on MB Global, fully.

Oklahoma owner-operator FAQs

Do I need PikePass to run Oklahoma turnpikes?

Oklahoma turnpikes use cashless tolling with PikePass, and I-44 between Lawton, Oklahoma City, Tulsa and Joplin runs on turnpike for long stretches. Set up PikePass before you count on those routes. Ask the recruiter how tolls are handled before you build your numbers.

What is the weather risk for OTR drivers leaving Oklahoma?

Two seasons to watch. Winter ice storms can glaze I-40 and I-35 and shut things down for a day or more. Spring brings severe weather across the state. OKTraffic posts current conditions, so check it before you pull out and keep an eye on the forecast when you are heading back toward home.

Why does Oklahoma work well as a home base for OTR?

Because of the crossroads. I-40 and I-35 meet in Oklahoma City, and I-44 covers the diagonal to Tulsa and Missouri. Texas, Kansas, Arkansas and Missouri are each a direct shot, and Amarillo opens the Southwest. From home in Oklahoma you are rarely far from an interstate pointed at freight.

Is the driver job market in Oklahoma growing?

The state projects 6 percent change for heavy and tractor-trailer drivers from 2024 to 2034, with about 3,380 openings each year, on a base of about 27,840 drivers in the May 2025 BLS count. Those are wage and salary figures, not owner-operator earnings. They tell you demand is there; your own results depend on your loads.

When can I reach a recruiter?

The recruiting line, 1-888-283-6958, is open Monday through Sunday from 7 AM to 5 PM. You can also send the six question form at any hour and a recruiter will follow up if you qualify. Either way, the next step after that conversation is the federal application and then orientation.

What does the pre-qualifying form actually ask?

Six quick questions about whether you meet the basic requirements on this page. It takes about a minute. It is not the full application, and it goes only to the recruiting team, not to advertising or analytics tools. If your answers line up, a recruiter calls to walk you through the rest.
