Border to Gulf, every direction
Owner-Operator CDL-A OTR Jobs in Texas
Texas moves an enormous amount of truck freight, and it gives an OTR driver more ways to leave town than almost anywhere. Laredo and El Paso handle the Mexico border. Port Houston and Corpus Christi handle the Gulf. Dallas and Fort Worth run one of the largest distribution markets in the country, and the Permian Basin keeps energy loads rolling. I-35, I-10, I-20 and I-45 tie it all together.

How our owner-operator program works
01
Independent contractor
You work with MB Global as an independent contractor. There is no payroll. You run the loads, pay your expenses and keep the balance. If you are looking for a paycheck with a boss attached, this is not that.
02
Rental, never lease-purchase
The truck is rented, period. MB Global runs no lease-purchase program, so nothing here ends with a title in your name or a truck note on your credit. You rent, you run, and the recruiter can explain the rental terms.
03
CDL A OTR only
Every load is long haul. The pattern we recommend is 2 to 3 weeks out, then a few days at home, whether home is Houston, Lubbock or the Valley. We do not promise miles or home time. Texas is big; OTR is bigger.
Freight corridors OTR drivers run from Texas
Texas has every kind of freight. Laredo and El Paso are the border crossings, and trucks stream north from both. Port Houston and the Port of Corpus Christi feed freight inland. The Dallas and Fort Worth metro is a huge distribution market, and the Permian Basin generates energy freight around Midland and Odessa. The Texas Workforce Commission projects about 14.1 percent growth for heavy truck drivers from 2024 to 2034, one of the highest rates among the states where we hire (behind only Delaware), with about 26,650 openings a year, the most of any state where we hire.
I-35 is the border road, Laredo north through San Antonio, Austin and Dallas and Fort Worth to Oklahoma. I-10 runs the width of the state from El Paso through San Antonio and Houston to Louisiana. I-20 links Midland and Odessa, Abilene, Dallas and Shreveport. I-45 joins Dallas and Houston. I-30, I-37, I-27 and I-40 fill in the rest, from Texarkana to Corpus Christi to Amarillo.
Texas road notes for OTR drivers
DriveTexas, from TxDOT, has statewide conditions. Toll roads ring Dallas, Houston, Austin and San Antonio, so plan routes and expenses around them. Weather comes in three flavors: summer heat that works your tires and cooling system, Gulf hurricane season on the coast, and the occasional ice storm in North Texas that slows everything down.
Texas driver jobs in numbers

Openings a year
Texas had about 209,680 heavy and tractor-trailer drivers in May 2025, according to BLS data, with a median wage of $56,290 a year compared with $58,640 nationally. Looking ahead, the state projects a 14.1 percent change in driver employment from 2024 to 2034 and about 26,650 openings each year. These figures cover wage and salary drivers, not owner-operator earnings. What they show is scale: more driver openings than any other state where MB Global hires, which translates into freight that needs to move.
Orientation, travel and lodging
Orientation
Remote portion from home, in-person portion at our terminal.
Lodging
Covered in full by MB Global for the in-person days.
Travel
Arranged and paid up front by MB Global, charged back at $50 per week. Confirm the week count with your recruiter.
Orientation for Texas drivers is split. You complete the remote part from wherever you live, then travel to our terminal for the in-person part, where MB Global covers lodging in full. The travel is arranged and paid by MB Global before you go, and it is recovered at $50 per week on settlements. Ask the recruiter how many weeks the chargeback lasts and how it is labeled.

Texas owner-operator FAQs
Why do Laredo and El Paso matter for a Texas OTR driver?
They are the two big truck crossings with Mexico, and freight that comes north through them heads up I-35 and I-10 to every market in the country. For a driver based in Texas, that means a lot of outbound freight originates close to home. There are no lanes by state, so where you go depends on the freight.
How do I handle the toll roads around Dallas, Houston, Austin and San Antonio?
Tolled roads ring all four metros. They can save time but they cost money, so they are worth asking about. Plan routes with DriveTexas and the toll network in mind, and ask the recruiter how tolls are handled on settlements so there are no surprises.
What weather should a Texas driver prepare for on OTR runs?
Three things. Summer heat in West and South Texas, which is hard on tires and cooling systems. Hurricane season on the Gulf, which can disrupt Houston and Corpus Christi freight. And the occasional ice storm in North Texas that turns I-35 and I-20 into a parking lot. DriveTexas shows statewide conditions before you leave.
Texas shows 26,650 driver openings a year. Does that mean work for me?
It means demand. That projection counts wage and salary drivers, not independent contractors, so it is not a forecast of your settlements. But 26,650 openings a year, the most of any state where MB Global hires, says Texas freight is not slowing down. More freight is what keeps an owner-operator loaded.
Is this regional or dedicated work?
Neither. All runs with MB Global are CDL A OTR, long haul. We do not run lanes or yards by state. The rhythm we suggest is 2 to 3 weeks out and a few days home in Texas, and we do not promise set miles or home time. If you want to be home nightly, this is not it.
When can I reach a recruiter?

Either way, bring your questions about the rental, the travel chargeback and orientation, because those details are easier to settle on the phone.
